How
they met
In the early 1990s, Jeff and Dana had a common penfriend Oris from
Lithuania.
One day, Dana sent Oris a "penfriend sheet", which is a sheet or a
booklet that penfriends around the world send each other to exchange
addresses. Oris signed it and sent it to Jeff in the States. At that time, Jeff was planning to
visit
Czechoslovakia and was looking to make friends in the
country. He saw Dana's message and decided to write to her. Dana already had a lot of penfriends
at that point and would not have written back to
Jeff, if he hadn't been from the San Francisco Bay Area (Dana loves the Golden Gate
Bridge!).
They wrote for almost two years and first met in person on July 23, 1993 at the
Prague bus station Florenc when Jeff was already living in Prague and Dana came
to visit him. Dana
moved to Prague in September 1994 and the couple started dating soon
after that.

Their
future plans
Jeff and Dana are currently living in Austin, TX and plan to move to California at the end of May. They will stay with Jeff's parents
until they find a place to rent in the Bay Area - the exact location will depend
on Jeff's job. They are hoping that their first acquisition will be a chocolate brown labrador retriever
puppy. They would like to buy a house with a garden eventually so that the dog (and
their
three kids) can get some exercise!

How they got engaged
Jeff and Dana got engaged at sunset on January 8,
1999 in Moraga, CA. Jeff proposed unexpectedly and in a very romantic way.
The proposal took place in private and was followed by a dinner with Jeff's
parents at the Walnut Creek Yacht Club. The wedding date was set for
September 4, 1999.
